I went online to Home Advisor and got three companies who all sent someone to give me an estimate. Two companies had slick brochures and well-dressed estimators who gave me varying prices for the work that I needed. The third company was a small family business and the young owner took the time to really look at the job and explain to me what he thought needed to be done and why. He seemed to know about trees. This estimate was the lowest and I decided to give this company a chance.
When they showed up to do the work there was the young owner and two other employees. They seemed well equipped for the job with several kinds of saws and dressed with appropriate safety equipment (helmets and gloves). As the owner did most of the trimming the other two workers did the clean-up and left the property as if they had never been there. When the contracted job was finished satisfactorily I asked the owner if he could remove a large rose bush from a corner of the property as well. We agreed on a very reasonable price and the extra work was done After the work was done the owner took the time to explain in detail what might eventually happen to the small oak tree that was planted as part of the original landscaping too close to a fence and an alley. This was much appreciated.
All in all, I was very happy with the work. the clean-up and the very reasonable price and sent out references to my neighbors.
